Dear sir, mrs,

Recently, I bought an antique grand-piano that will be fully restored in the months to come. The piano was made by the illustrious manufacturer Erard. All his instruments were numbered over the years and my piano is #14299. In the ledgers of the Erard-factory it reads that the piano was made in Febuary 1839 and acquired by "Mme.La Comtesse Ste.Marie 372 rue Honoré". I presume that is in Paris.
Have a look at the ledgers and the serial number:

Who was this Countess who bought this excellent instrument nearly twohundred years ago? What was her last name? I've been Googling, but without succes. Any expert opinions/help will be very much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Jacco Keyzer

Hi,

I can't say this is the only possibility, but :
What about Henriette Felicité d'Estampes comtesse de Sainte-Marie d'Agneaux.
https://gw.geneanet.org/pierfit?lang=fr&p=felicite&n=d+estampes&oc=1
She is buried in the famous Pere-Lachaise graveyard.
https://www.appl-lachaise.net/appl/article.php3?id_article=4698
Her father-in-law was called "Comte de Sainte-Marie"
https://fr.geneawiki.com/index.php/Famille_Le_Carlier_de_Trosly (see the generation XV)
his husband have been called only "Comte de Sainte-Marie" and then she was "comtesse de Sainte-Marie"
https://fr.geneawiki.com/index.php/Famille_de_Sainte_Marie_d%27Agneaux (see the generation XIV)

Henriette was 39 in 1839, so she could have bought the piano.

good evening,
If the previous clue is the good one, there is same information in the two above geneawiki pages
https://fr.geneawiki.com/index.php/Famille_de_Sainte_Marie_d%27Agneaux
https://fr.geneawiki.com/index.php/Famille_Le_Carlier_de_Trosly
And the same contributor Pierr01, (click Historique at upper right); If you contact him, you could perhaps know where they lived in 1839.?
Other possibilities BUT I HAVE NOT CHECKED
  • The census in Paris, But most of documents have been destroyed during the Commune in 1871 (for checking the address)
Directories de la Noblesse, to be found into the Gallica site of the BNF (National Library of France); there are many books to be found?
Good luck
regards

PS. Silly possibility : as this name is not common, you may contact some members of this family ?
