Merging Duplicates

If I search for my grandfather, I get five results, with basically the same information. I have created my own family tree which is now the only one that extends beyond his generation. Is it possible to merge my five grandfathers into a single person so all the available information is linked and accessible from the same location?

It looks like your tree on Geneanet is empty. So I assume you're talking about 5 other users' trees that include your grandfather. It that's what you're referring to, then there is no way to merge them. Each tree is the property of their owner and managed by their owner.

That is ridiculous... It defeats the purpose of a genealogy website, don't you think?

Like on other genealogy websites, each member has their own family tree.

There are two basic models for genealogy websites.
- Most sites are a collection of individual trees, like Geneanet, Ancestry, MyHeritage, etc.
- Collaborative trees, with a few examples below. If you investigate further, you will see that those sites get a lot of complaints about users overwriting other users' work, not being able to correct information because of editing restrictions, or simply introducing errors by publishing unverified information.
FamilySearch: https://www.familysearch.org
Wikitree: https://www.wikitree.com
Nos Origines: https://www.nosorigines.qc.ca (focused mainly on Canada)

With Geneanet, you can contact the owners of the 5 trees and provide them with the additional information (preferably sourced). It will be up to them whether or not they want to add that information to their tree.
